iGEM Thessaly 2024 will participate in a global Synthetic Biology competition called iGEM, that will be held this year in Paris, France. We are a research team that consists of 11 students from the University of Thessaly. This year, iGEM Thessaly 2024 will compete in the Agriculture category for the first time. Our goal is the protection of olive trees from Verticillium wilt, the most serious fungal disease of olive trees, caused by the fungus Verticillium dahliae. We recognize the importance of the problem, especially because olives are a trademark for Greece and a key pillar of our diet, promoting the health and longevity of the entire Mediterranean region. We are, therefore, aiming to create a product that specifically addresses Verticillium dahliae, ensuring the protection of soil biodiversity and olive trees, for present and future generations to come. This competition is a unique opportunity for us to strengthen our contribution to the field of synthetic biology. To achieve this purpose, we need financial aid from all of you.
